North Texas Giving Day: A Celebration of Generosity

Every year, North Texas Giving Day brings the community together to create meaningful change. Held annually in September, this 18-hour online giving event offers a unique opportunity for individuals, businesses, and organizations to rally around local nonprofits. The event helps raise critical funds to fuel their missions, ensuring they can continue their work throughout the year. Let’s explore what makes this day so special and how you can get involved.

Community-Wide Giving Day

North Texas Giving Day was founded in 2009 by the Communities Foundation of Texas with a vision to make charitable giving easy and impactful. It started as a regional event but has since become the largest community-wide giving day in the nation. The event encourages residents of North Texas to contribute to their favorite nonprofits through a user-friendly online platform. Last year alone, the event supported over 3,200 nonprofits across 20 counties across North Texas.

This giving marathon lasts from 6 a.m. to midnight, allowing donors to browse through hundreds of nonprofits and choose causes that resonate with them. There is even a quiz you can take to match you with organizations based on your interests and priorities. The platform is filled with stories, testimonials, and updates from nonprofits about how donations will impact their communities. This year, many organizations have started early, with challenge grants doubling the impact of donations.

Why Does it Matter?

The importance of North Texas Giving Day cannot be overstated. Nonprofits are often the backbone of communities, tackling critical issues like poverty, education, health, and housing. For many of these organizations, the funds raised on North Texas Giving Day make up a significant portion of their annual budgets. From providing meals for families in need to offering scholarships to underprivileged students, the money raised helps nonprofits scale their services and meet growing demands.

In 2023, the event raised over $66 million in just one day, showing how small donations can add up to make a tremendous difference. Even a $25 contribution can have a ripple effect, especially when coupled with bonus funds and matching gifts provided by local businesses and sponsors.

Senior-Focused Organizations

Currently there are 41 Senior-Focused Non-profit organziations participating in North Texas Giving Day. These organizations range from local chapters of national organizations like The Alzheimer’s Association & Meals on Wheels to local nonprofit service providers like The Senior Source and The Wellness Center. There are programs supporting the arts such as Songs & Smiles, Spectacular Follies, For Love & Art, Musical Memory Singers, and New Song Community Choir. There are also senior-focused organizations involving animals like Mini Hooves of Love, Pet Pals Pack, and MiniEncounters Mini Therapy Horses.

How Can You Get Involved?

Getting involved is easy, whether you’re a seasoned philanthropist or giving for the first time. Visit the official North Texas Giving Day website, browse through the list of nonprofits, and choose a cause that matters to you. You can also spread the word by sharing posts on social media, creating your own fundraising page, or encouraging your workplace to participate. Some even host virtual events, challenges, or donation matches to increase their impact.
